This piece is 30" wide by 77" high and very heavy. It's inspiration is based on the Shamanic Death which is Bat Medicine, and refers to the leaving behind of the egoic self in order for the Spirit Self to rebirth. Each section of the painting depicts life experiences of Janette while she studied the process of Spiritual rebirth by embracing the phenomenas of Sorcery and the Shamanic Dream.
The second image from the left is an item which Janette found at the power spot location and her ritual site of Shamanic Death ceremony. The item is unfamiliar plant matter much like a large, soft pod containing powdery white seeds, which has still to this date not been identified.
The third image is from a Medicine Journey for hours into a river canyon until Janette could travel no further due to physical landscape, and meditated in this final location which she refers to as "the hallway". A year later upon taking this journey once again to return to this location, the location could not be found and the landscape was completely unfamiliar and drastically different even though there was only one river path to reach the destination. These experiences are familiar to the Shaman and represent the entrance into multiple dimensions or worlds.
The fourth image is representative of the element of public slander, harassment and defamation of character, which is apparent in the historical story of the Bible and led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Often these challenges occur when one delves into the mysteries of the unknown, such as a Shamanic Rebirth, and can lead to feeling ostracized by family, peers, and society in general. The buffalo skull represents the protection of Universal Laws, as buffalo is Janette's primary animal totem.
The final image is a bald eagle whom Janette worked with at a Raptor Rehabilitation Clinic in British Columbia offering energy healing. It was the Spiritual Medicine work with this eagle that led Janette to the path of the Red Road and Canada's First Nations people, opening her up to a new world of healing through ancient traditional Native medicine and the revival of the lost ways of our Indigenous ancestors.
